A second extension has been granted for the P.E.I. commercial halibut fishery.

Fishers will be allowed on the water Sept. 13 and 14 at 6 a.m. The season ended Aug. 31, and the first extension allowed fishing on Sept. 6 and 7. The Atlantic halibut allocation for the P.E.I. fixed gear fleet this year is 51.982 metric tonnes.

That amount includes the initial allocation for this fleet (51.42t) as well as a carry forward of 0.562t remaining from the 2016 season. Based on the number of registered participants, an individual catch limit of 182 kg was implemented.

The maximum number of hooks permitted to be fished or on board a vessel at any time is 300, with a maximum individual by-catch limit of 50kg of cod for each fishing period.
