To capture the remaining 2017 P.E.I. halibut quota, the P.E.I. Fishermen’s Association is administering a registration and draw for those fishers with continued interest in fishing halibut.
Registration is being held until Sept. 20 at the association office in Charlottetown. The individual catch limit will remain 182 kg for those taking part in the fishery. If the number of registrants exceeds the available quota, a draw will proceed.
The list of harvesters will be submitted to the Department of Fisheries & Oceans and will be subject to confirmation and approval by DFO. The successful applications will be able to venture out on the water from Sept. 26 to 28. If 90 per cent of the total quota isn’t caught by that time, a third fishing period may occur in October.
