The picturesque town of Lockeport came alive on August 8–9, 2025, as families, anglers and curious spectators gathered at the Lockeport Wharf for the 33rd annual Lockeport Sea Derby, Nova Scotia’s longest-running fishing tournament.
This year’s derby celebrated its deep-rooted tradition in the Lockeport area, offering a weekend packed with fishing competitions, local music, food and community engagement. Participants of all ages cast their lines in hopes of landing the biggest catch, with categories spanning mackerel, groundfish and other local species.
Beyond the fishing, the wharf buzzed with activity. Local vendors sold fishing supplies. The Wharf Wall Chalk Contest was a standout with young artists transforming the dockside into a vibrant gallery. Colourful creations captured the spirit of the sea.
