The smelt fishery in P.E.I. inland waters runs from April 1 to June 15 with dip nets and the angling fishery open from April 15 to Sept. 15.
The smelt fishery for bag nets, box nets, gill nets and spear will be closed all year.
In the tidal waters, the smelt fishery with bag nets and box nets will be from Oct. 15 to Feb. 28, 2018; the gill net fishery will be from Oct. 1 to Feb. 28, 2018; the spear fishery will be from Dec. 1 to March 31, 2018; the dip net fishery is from April 1 to June 15; and the angling fishery will be open till Dec. 29 in the tidal waters.
For portions of the Mary’s River and Georges River, the season for bag nets and box nets will be from Oct. 15 to Feb. 28, 2018; the gill net fishery is from Oct. 1 to Feb. 28, 2018; and the dip net fishery is from April 1 to June 15. The spearing of smelts in the affected areas of the rivers will be closed year-round and the smelt angling fishery will also be closed year-round.
